Have you ever felt like everything is going against you? It could be your job, your spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend, your family, your study, your friends, or anything else that leaves you feeling hopeless. It seems like no matter how much you work to make things right, there is always something that goes wrong. If you have been feeling like that for a while, do not be scared, everyone is feeling the same way, both the old and the young. Maybe some of us even think that we are living in denial by thinking, “It is going to work out one day, it will, I just have to keep working on it.” However, I think a lot of us are scared with the thought, “What if that day never comes? What if I never found the purpose of my life” While I may not know your exact circumstances to specifically help you deal with your conditions, there are still some steps that can help to overcome this feeling.
How To Be More Positive
1. Pause and stop for a moment
Yes, do take a step back and pause your life. Sometimes when we are stuck in our condition that made us feel hopeless, we often think that we need to keep on working on it until we could find a solution or a breakthrough. However, often times, the solution comes from taking a pause in what we are doing so we can reflect what is actually going wrong. For example: maybe we have been fighting a lot with our friends because we have been working too hard and we spend less time with them. From our point of view, we felt frustrated because we have been trying to balance work and our social life and we actually have been trying making both work. If we take a pause from what we are doing, we might actually see that maybe we are have been taking too many workloads and we could actually balance our work and social life by lessen taking that workload.
2. Everything happens for a reason (there is a higher purpose)
Yes, it is not just a cliché statement that people say. Everything does happen for a reason. The struggles that we are facing right now are there to make us more mature, more experienced in knowing what is right and wrong for us. Just remember, nothing that is worth having comes easy. It is all a process to prepare us for more success in the future. This may not make sense because well in this time of need, we do need more than just “everything happens for a reason.” You do not need to believe it now if it is difficult for you to accept it. However, there are things that happen outside our control but you need to remember that you are in control of your life. You can turn things around and you need to believe in yourself. Just do the best that you can do day by day and eventually you will be successful in no time!
3. Be grateful
I think that one of the hardest things in life is to be grateful because we feel it does not help with our cause. However, it actually does. We often chase too many things in life because we are never grateful for the things that we have. When we are chasing the wrong things or people in life, our lives become more difficult and even toxic because they are not meant to be in our lives. The best things in life are often the simplest things. When we learn to be grateful with whatever we have in every level in life, we end up getting what we do not even think that we deserve. Because, as mentioned in a quote, “the secret of having it all is knowing that you already have it all.”
4. Find support
When we are facing difficulties, we may have been embarrassed to seek for help. Nevertheless, sometimes other people do have the solutions that we are looking for. Why? We tend to operate on a lot of cognitive biases when we are dealing with our own issues. In other words, we tend to think that what we think and what we do are always right. Maybe from our own point of views, we do not see that we are wrong because none us really want to say that we are wrong right? Seek advice and support from your loved ones because oftentimes they know us better than we know ourselves. They could help us find the solutions that we are looking for because they see it from a neutral perspective. After all, they are the ones who always care about us; they are more than happy and willing to help us. Maybe they would not be able to solve our issues, but I am pretty sure that they will always have our backs.
All in all, we do all have our difficult phases in life, but we do need to remember that it is a difficult phase and not a difficult life. Our lives are not easy but there are always amazing things that are happening and also will happen when we do not give up. Remember, you are in control and no one can make your life work other than you!
